Amapiano artist Scotts Maphuma has opened up about his controversial stance on taking pictures with fans, stating that he doesn’t feel obligated to do so.

Speaking on the L-Tido Podcast, the Biri Marunga hitmaker addressed the stir he caused weeks ago regarding his views on fame. He admitted that while he can be sociable, he values his personal space.
“I’m an introvert, but I can switch it up—I’m like a DSG gearbox. That’s why I struggle with fans wanting photos and videos. Sometimes, I just want my space,” he explained.
Maphuma went on to say that fans should respect his boundaries. “Music is like running a shop—you stock the shelves and wait for customers. No one forced anyone to open a shop, and no one forced me to make music. So if I don’t want to take a picture, that should be okay.”
He also emphasized that his success comes from a higher power, not public approval. “I don’t owe anyone. No celebrity does. I live by God’s will. No one made me who I am, and no one can take that away from me.”
His comments quickly went viral, landing him on the trending list on X (formerly Twitter), where many South Africans criticized his views.
