Johannesburg – 20 August 2025: Kaya 959 has announced the immediate suspension of popular radio presenter and podcaster Sol Phenduka, pending the conclusion of an internal investigation.
In a brief statement, the station confirmed that Phenduka will not be on air while the process unfolds, emphasising that the matter is being handled with fairness and due process. “We are committed to concluding this process internally and will communicate further updates once a final determination has been made,” the station noted.
Phenduka, who co-hosted the morning show alongside Sizwe Dhlomo, was last on air on Wednesday morning before the suspension took effect.
The broadcaster refrained from providing further details, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing review, but assured listeners, staff, and stakeholders that transparency will be maintained once the matter is finalised.
Background
Phenduka joined Kaya 959 on 1 July 2022, originally co-hosting the breakfast show with Dineo Ranaka before transitioning to his current role with Dhlomo. Over the years, he has established himself as a prominent figure in South Africa’s radio and podcasting space.
For now, Kaya 959 has not disclosed who will step in to cover Phenduka’s slot while the internal process is under way.
