Gcina Mkhize Stands Her Ground Amid Alleged Home Hijacking and Industry Blacklisting
Johannesburg — Veteran actress and award-winning performer Gcina Mkhize has spoken out about her ongoing struggle to retain ownership of her family home in Mondeor, south of Johannesburg, describing the ordeal as a deeply traumatic experience that has left her disillusioned and betrayed.
In a candid interview on The Voice with Palesa podcast, Mkhize revealed she remains in the property, despite repeated attempts to evict her, which she claims are being driven by a coordinated and corrupt syndicate operating within South Africa’s property and legal systems.
“I am still at the house that is my children’s and my home. Where will I go?” Mkhize said emotionally. “The South African law has failed me and my kids so much; they dismiss everything.”
Mkhize first gained widespread public attention in 2023 after posting videos online alleging she was being illegally removed from the home. She maintains that the property was wrongfully sold at auction, allegedly due to a default on her bond, a claim she disputes.
Since then, the actress has remained in the residence with her daughters under increasingly difficult circumstances. She shared that the windows have been repeatedly smashed, forcing her to cover them with plastic to protect her family from the elements. In a particularly distressing development, she disclosed that she and her daughters were at one point forced to share the home with two unknown men linked to the alleged buyer.
“I still say there is a syndicate that deals with stealing people’s homes,” she stated. “The police are involved, people from the bank and the courts. I might be wrong, but it is what I believe.”
Beyond her housing battle, Mkhize also opened up about being ostracized by the entertainment industry, despite her decades-long career and accolades. She alleges that she has been blacklisted from productions at the instruction of an influential figure.
“I was told I wouldn’t be cast until I came back and apologised to certain people,” she said. “The bad thing is that that person is going to wait forever. I will not apologise to anyone.”
Mkhize, now 52, admitted the experience left her questioning her talent and worth. “I grappled with it in the beginning. It did not make sense to me that with the work that I have done, the industry would still treat me the way that it did. I felt discarded… like someone was trying to punish me or being spiteful.”
In a poignant revelation, she also said she had been a target of witchcraft from someone she once regarded as family. “It came from someone I used to sit and laugh with… someone I saw as a sister.”
Despite the turmoil, Mkhize remains defiant, continuing to fight for her home and dignity in the face of adversity.
