Breaking: Verdict Reached on SuperSport United vs. Golden Arrows Clash
It is confirmed that the previously postponed Betway Premiership match between SuperSport United and Golden Arrows will resume from the second half, with the exact date still to be confirmed.
The ruling, delivered this week, pertains to the fixture abandoned at half-time on 23 February due to load shedding at Lucas Moripe Stadium. At the time, the match was level at 1-1.
The game had extra significance as it was meant to mark Gavin Hunt’s 1000th career match as a coach. However, the milestone celebration was marred by the failure to provide a backup generator amid scheduled power outages. Hunt has since been dismissed, with Andre Arendse stepping in as interim coach.
Nearly three months later, sources reveal that the verdict has favored SuperSport United, who were responsible for ensuring adequate lighting as the home team.
Initially, the match was briefly paused when the floodlights failed, but the referee allowed play to continue under natural light until halftime. After discussions with both clubs, the PSL took over the matter to determine the way forward.
Christian Saile gave SuperSport an early lead in the 4th minute, before Velemseni Ndwandwe equalized for Arrows just before the break.
According to SABC Sport, only the second half will be played when the match resumes.
Both clubs are still fighting to avoid the relegation play-offs, making every point crucial. SuperSport’s fate may hinge on their result against Orlando Pirates tonight, while Golden Arrows will face Sekhukhune United on Saturday. Matsatsantsa will then host Richards Bay before concluding their season with the rescheduled fixture.
