Mac G Dropped by DStv After Controversial Comments About Minnie Dlamini Spark Backlash
Johannesburg — Popular YouTuber and podcast host Mac G has been dropped by DStv following a public outcry over controversial remarks he made about actress and TV personality Minnie Dlamini.
The decision to cut ties with Mac G, whose real name is MacGyver Mukwevho, comes just a month after his show Podcast and Chill began airing on DStv’s Mzansi Magic and Mzansi Wethu channels — a move many saw as a major milestone in his growing media career.
According to a report by TimesLIVE, MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv, officially ended its partnership with the podcast on Sunday, 25 May. This brings Mac G’s short-lived foray into traditional television to a sudden and controversial end.
The backlash stems from a recent episode of Podcast and Chill where Mac G made disparaging comments about Minnie Dlamini, which many viewed as disrespectful and inappropriate. While the episode aired on his YouTube channel, it was notably withheld from DStv platforms — a move that signaled early signs of discomfort from the broadcaster.
Mac G later issued an apology for his remarks, but the damage had already been done. Outrage spread across social media, with many users calling for accountability and questioning why such content was being given a platform on mainstream television.
Over the weekend, social media was ablaze with reactions to the news. Influential blogger Musa Khawula confirmed the development via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, 24 May, claiming that the podcaster had officially been dropped from DStv.
The incident has reignited debates about freedom of speech, accountability in media, and the responsibilities that come with influence in South Africa’s entertainment industry.
As of now, Podcast and Chill continues to operate on digital platforms, but Mac G’s removal from DStv marks a significant setback for the show’s broader ambitions in mainstream broadcasting.
DStv and Mac G have yet to release official statements beyond the reported termination.
