Love Poem: by Leonard Mathye (I’m sorry)

Spread the love

I’m Sorry

I’m sorry that I exist
I’m sorry that my meekness annoys you
I’m sorry that I’m tender and petite
I’m defenseless and voiceless
I trusted you to love me though my love for you is pointless
How did I become your punching bag
I used to mean the world to you
But your rage came down to crush it down
I used love your smile but now all I see is a frown

I’ve lied to my friends and family to hide you
I now wear make up to hide the black eyes
What have I done to you
I’m trapped in a cage of hurtful words and fists
I lied to the kids to protect you integrity
I’m used to the pain that is gradually eating me

I’m sorry, I’m sorry I made a choice to love you unconditionally
I’m sorry my presence makes your fists itch
I’m sorry I’m a woman
I’m sorry, I’m sorry I chose you over everything
I’m sorry that other men look at me the way the way they do
I’m sorry that my friends wish to dine with me sometimes
I’m sorry I laugh at facebook jokes
I’m sorry, I’m I cooked your favorite dish when you’d already eaten out

I’m sorry that I still wish you’d take me out
I’m sorry I took the kids the park
I’m sorry my life is worthless to you
I’m sorry
