Stolen Plasma TVs Recovered in Mariveni Village Following Community-Led Action
Tzaneen, May 21, 2025 — Three stolen plasma TVs were successfully recovered in Mariveni Village last night thanks to a swift joint operation between residents and the local Community Patrol. The suspects were arrested and taken to Ritavi Police Station, where they remain in custody.
The recovery follows a troubling rise in criminal activity in the area, with residents reporting frequent incidents of housebreaking and burglary. Community members are growing increasingly frustrated with what they describe as a lack of response from authorities.
Community Spokesperson, President Katla Katla, voiced these concerns in a Facebook post, referencing a community meeting held last Thursday:
“Last week Thursday we had a Community meeting regarding the abnormal rise of the crime rate in our village. We then took resolutions in that said meeting, but till to date none of the resolutions were implemented. After the meeting, instead of the rate decreasing, it’s actually doing the opposite — we received cases of house breaking, burglary each and every day. This simply means those thieves are saying they are untouchable.
The question is: When will this end? What are our leaders doing in this difficult time? What I know is in the absence of the leadership, the masses tend to lead themselves — and it won’t end well.”
Speaking after the arrests, Katla Katla added, “Enough is enough — we need real intervention.”
Residents have applauded the efforts of the Community Patrol and are urging local authorities to urgently implement the resolutions taken during last week’s meeting to curb the worsening crime wave.
Police investigations are still underway.
