Amapiano artist Scotts Maphuma has broken his silence and issued a heartfelt apology following his recent arrest in Mozambique, where he failed to show up for a scheduled performance at a children’s concert. The incident sparked outrage across social media and made headlines, with many questioning the artist’s professionalism and commitment.
The Uyaphapha Marn hitmaker was arrested in Maputo over the weekend after promoters claimed he failed to honour a paid booking. The situation escalated when one of the event organisers opened a case against him, resulting in Maphuma spending time in custody before being released.
Before returning to South Africa, Scotts Maphuma held a press conference in Mozambique on Tuesday, 3 June 2025, where he publicly addressed the issue. Speaking calmly and humbly, a far cry from his usual confident persona, Maphuma apologised to his fans and the event organisers.
“First and foremost, I would love to apologise to my fans who really, really love me and really love my music,” he said. “It was just unfortunate yesterday that we missed our flight because of the work we had. Obviously, we tried. We never gave up as Skipper Entertainment, as Scotts Maphuma. We always try to get to the gig, no matter how late, because we believe in ‘better late than never.’”
He added that such an incident would not happen again and vowed to uphold a better standard of professionalism moving forward.
The apology triggered a mixed reaction online. While some fans sympathised with the artist and commended him for taking accountability, others were less forgiving, insisting that Maphuma had let down not only the organisers but also his supporters.
This is not the first time Maphuma has found himself in controversy. In recent weeks, the eGoli singer has made headlines for multiple missteps, including being snubbed at shows and making controversial statements in interviews. However, his recent display of humility may be a turning point.
As the Amapiano scene continues to grow globally, industry watchers and fans alike hope Scotts Maphuma will use this incident as a learning curve and regain trust through consistency and professionalism in the future.
