Another Legal Blow for Nomcebo Zikode as Court Dismisses Her Appeal
Written by DMSza

PRETORIA – The High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division in Pretoria, has officially dismissed the appeal filed by award-winning singer Nomcebo Nothule Nkwanyana, widely known for her vocals on the global hit Jerusalema.

In the judgment handed down electronically on 24 July 2025, the Court ruled against Zikode and co-applicant Emazulwini Production and Projects (Pty) Ltd in their legal battle against former record label Open Mic Productions (Pty) Ltd and Africori SA (Pty) Ltd.

According to the judgment under case number: 098393/2023, the Judge stated:

“The application for leave to appeal is refused.”

Additionally, the Court amended its previous order (dated 9 May 2025) by removing the clause that included the employment of two counsel in the costs. However, the financial blow remains, as the applicants were ordered to jointly and severally pay the legal costs of the application:

“The applicants are to jointly but severally pay the costs of this application, the one paying absolving the other, on a scale as between party and party to be settled or taxed at scale B.”

This latest development marks another legal setback for Nomcebo Zikode in her ongoing efforts to assert her rights and claims over her music career and disputes with her former label.

The judgment was prepared and signed digitally, following the court’s standard procedure of electronic hand-down via CaseLines.
