PELANA VILLAGE : The long wait for an identity document is over for an elderly woman from Pelana Village in Bolobedu, who was over the moon on Tuesday for receiving her ID card after many years of waiting.

Elizabeth Ntenisi (65), who was born in the Eastern Cape moved to Mooketsi Farms to live with her now – deceased husband in 1985.

Ntenisi endured many difficulties in her life to the point where she lost contact with all her relatives in Eastern Cape, the only thing she can remember is the village where she was born called Hofmeyer.

She watched her husband, who was her best friend, slowly fading away and succumbing to his illness. After her husband passed away, her situation worsened as she was facing life alone.

It got to a point where she had given up that she will one day have an ID of her own.

Greater Tzaneen Ward 1 Councillor Mokgalabje Maunatlala adopted her after realising that she doesn’t have any relatives.

“I had to intervene as the leader of the community and assist with food security and other social interventions while assisting her with ID,” said Maunatlala

Now that her ID is out and she was also assisted to apply for the SASSA grant.

“I have been telling many that if my councillorship comes to an end having this woman with an ID and grant I will be a happy man, to me is a great achievement” Maunatlala concluded.
