The Basic Education Department has cancelled mid-year matric examinations to allow for students to ‘cover’ the year’s syllabus. It was reported on Wednesday that Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga made the announcement. Reports revealed that Motshekga wishes to keep the class of 2021 in school and learning for as long as possible. Motshekga stated that students need to make up for the time they have lost and need to cover the curriculum.

Motshekga stated that there is a team monitoring Covid-19 infections daily. Regulations have directed that where it is practical, both teaching and learning can be done outside classrooms if all Covid-19 health and safety measures are being followed.
