TZANEEN: Various taxi associations in Tzaneen stood in solidarity today after getting a tip-off that Tzaneen might be looted this afternoon.
The associations included those from Nkowankowa, N’waMitwa, Bolobedu, Greater Letaba, Motupa and Tzaneen teamed up with Northern Security and K9 to guard the Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre against possible looting and destruction of property.

This comes after an anonymous tip-off was received at around 12: 37 that the building could be looted and vandalised this afternoon. The General Manager of Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre Alida Smit was full of praise for the taxi associations for taking the initiative of safeguarding the mall. “We’d love to thank the people of Tzaneen for the solitary and togetherness that they are portraying, ” said Smit after being approached by Tzaneen Voice. “I think we had about 18 taxi associations that came to safeguard the Mall after I got a tip-off that there is possible vandalism looming,” said Smit. Earlier in the day, a number of shops, mostly Indian-owned, were closed in the Tzaneen CBD upon hearing of the tip-off.

The situation in the town is now calm but the taxi associations remain on high alert should anything happen.
