it is said that Mamelodi Sundowns was not formed in 1970 but in 1964.

When Patrice Motsepe bought Mamelodi Sundowns in 2003/4, he was actually bringing back the team that belongs to his family. Not many people are equipped that Patrice Motsepe’s uncle is one of the founders of Mamelodi Sundowns, His uncle was also playing soccer along with P. Motsepe as a junior, P Motsepe used to carry his uncle’s bags to soccer matches when he consequently fell in love with the football game where he also developed desire to play football.

As matter of fact, Patrice Motsepe joined Arcadia Shepherd to unleash his talent, but couldn’t progress further as expected though he was a deadly diamond on the field. The club “Mamelodi Sundowns” was initially formed in 1964 by a group of youngsters in Marabastad, Pretoria. Marabastad is a suburb in the country’s administrative capital, Pretoria. Among the founders, Frank ‘ABC’ Motsepe, Ingle Singh, and Bernard Hartze were parts.

Frank Motsepe attended Sekitla Secondary School in nearby Mathibestad. By the time, The Principal of the school was ABC Motsepe who is Patrice Motsepe’s father. ABC Motsepe was also a soccer coach.

Frank Motsepe was given the nickname ABC because his uncle was the school principal and the coach.
