MK Party in turmoil: Limpopo deputy quits over ‘one-woman show’

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has been rocked by internal discord following the resignation of Ponani Makhubele, who served as the Limpopo Deputy Organiser. Makhubele has also withdrawn her membership from the party, citing deep-rooted issues of nepotism, lack of transparency, and undemocratic leadership practices within the provincial structure.

In her resignation letter, Makhubele levelled serious accusations against Limpopo Provincial Co-ordinator, Maraga Anikie Tshilidzi, whom she claims has been single-handedly running party affairs and marginalising other officials.

“I want to confirm that, yes, it’s true that I have resigned, also as a member of the party. What I want to indicate is that my decision is both organisational and political,” Makhubele wrote. “I felt that there is no transparency within the organisation. It has become a one-person show in the Limpopo province, whereby the Provincial Co-ordinator, Maraga Anikie Tshilidzi, wants to do everything and has been replacing appointed members with her friends.”

Sources within the party suggest that tensions in the provincial leadership have been simmering for months, with concerns raised over internal governance and the sidelining of key contributors. Makhubele’s resignation brings these disputes into the public spotlight and raises questions about the stability of the party’s provincial operations.

At the time of writing, the MKP leadership has not officially responded to the allegations or the resignation. However, political analysts warn that such public fractures could undermine the party’s credibility ahead of any major political campaigns or electoral participation in the province.

The development comes amid broader efforts by the MK Party to strengthen its presence across South Africa. Whether this internal fallout will impact its strategic goals in Limpopo remains to be seen.
